The UK is facing an intense heatwave, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 40°C in some areas. Rare weather alerts have been issued, schools have closed early in some regions, and transport disruption is expected. More than 29,000 lightning strikes were recorded overnight, causing flooding, fires and travel disruption. Bristol Airport temporarily suspended flights, while several rail operators reported delays and cancellations.
