One Dead and Dozens Injured After Attack at Berlin Pride Event

One woman has died and at least twenty nine others have been injured after a suspected terror attack on July 25th in Berlin’s Tiergarten park. 

Hundreds of people were out celebrating Christopher Street Day, a pride event named after the street home to New York’s Stonewall Inn. At approximately 10pm, Abdul Ballout drove a van into the crowd, before crashing into a tree, getting out of the vehicle and attacking people with a blade before fleeing the scene. A manhunt was immediately launched to find him, leading to him being shot by police the next day in Spandau after he rushed at officers with a knife.

It is not certain what exactly Ballout’s motives for this attack were, but the police believe it might have been a terror attack due to his history. Ballout, a 21 year old born and raised in Berlin, was known to the police, who say that in May 2025 he went to Lebanon with the intention of becoming a member of the terrorist group The Islamic State. In May 2026, he was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison for “preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state.” However, this sentence was delayed by six months, and he was placed under the supervision of a parole officer.
