Ofcom Begins Investigation Into Married at First Sight UK

The UK’s communications regulator Ofcom has officially launched its investigation into the Channel 4 reality dating show Married at First Sight UK. 

In May 2026, Panorama released a documentary called The Dark Side of Married at First Sight, interviewing three women who had been contestants on the show. Two of them alleged that their on screen husbands had raped them, while the other woman says she had participated in a non-consentual sex act. All three of the women claim that the production did not do enough to protect them. 

As a consequence of the documentary, a male cast member was arrested, but later released on bail. No one involved can legally be named. 

Married at First Sight UK was one of Channel 4’s biggest shows, regularly pulling in millions of viewers. The show was a social experiment, where pairs of strangers would be matched by experts, and their first time meeting each another would be when they got ‘married’ (although the marriages were not legally binding). 

All episodes of the series have been pulled from streaming, and Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra said in May after the airing of the Panorama documentary: "I have watched the programme, and heard the women’s accounts… their distress is clear, and for that, I am of course deeply sorry.” She also shut down rumours that the upcoming series of the show had been canceled, although despite being filmed, it’s currently unclear if it will ever air.
