Klopp confirms Germany talks as return to management edges closer

Former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he is in talks to become the next Germany national team manager following the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.

Speaking during his role as a World Cup pundit, Klopp revealed that the German Football Association had approached him after Nagelsmann stepped down following Germany's disappointing World Cup exit.

Klopp admitted he feels refreshed after leaving Liverpool in 2024, saying he is now "more than recharged" and ready to return to coaching. However, he stressed that discussions are still ongoing and that any appointment would require talks with his current employers at Red Bull, where he serves as Head of Global Soccer.

The 59-year-old believes Germany is at a turning point and says the national team needs significant changes rather than simply appointing a new coach. He also defended Nagelsmann, insisting the former boss was not solely responsible for Germany's recent struggles.

Multiple reports now suggest Klopp is the overwhelming favourite for the role, with negotiations progressing rapidly. Some outlets report that an agreement has effectively been reached, although the final details of his departure from Red Bull are still being resolved.

If appointed, Klopp would take charge of Germany ahead of their preparations for the next major international tournaments, marking his first managerial role since leaving Liverpool after a hugely successful nine-year spell at Anfield.
