Iran Deny Trump’s Claim That New Negotiations Will Start Today

On Sunday August 2nd, US President Donald Trump claimed that new negotiations with Iran would happen on the 3rd, which Iran has denied. 

While Trump said: “very good and productive conversations” were happening after he called off strikes that had been planned for the past weekend, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said there were: “no negotiations ongoing with the US.” Iran has however been in conversation with Oman over temporarily opening the strait of Hormuz. 

Conflict has been paused and restarted multiple times since the US and Israel declared war on Iran in February. According to CNN, a US military officer recently emailed troops seeking: “new creative and unconventional ways to pressure and punish Iran.” CNN said this query was: “a sign of the limited options available to the president to force Iran into a deal on his terms.”
