Erin Patterson Argues Her Murder Convictions Should be Overturned
Erin Patterson's barrister Richard Edney is claiming that because the jury in Patterson's trial was not sequestered, it: "undermined the integrity of the verdicts and requires the quashing of the convictions".
Last September, Patterson was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of her estranged husband's parents Don and Gil Patterson, as well as the murder of her husband’s aunt Heather Wilkinson, and the attempted murder of Heather’s husband Ian. Patterson had invited the family to lunch at her home in Victoria Australia, where she served a beef wellington laced with poisonous death cap mushrooms.
This appeal from herself and her lawyers is one of several arguing for Patterson’s convictions to be overturned. Some of the others include the argument that evidence taken from her Facebook friends should not have been included in the trial, and that prosecutor Nanette Rogers SC misstated evidence on 36 separate occasions.
It’s unclear when results from this hearing will be announced, and the case is still ongoing.
