England Face Mexico In 1am Kick-Off
England Prepare for World Cup Last-16 Showdown with Mexico
England are just one game away from the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they prepare to face tournament co-hosts Mexico in a huge last-16 clash at the iconic Azteca Stadium.
Thomas Tuchel's side booked their place in the knockout stage after coming from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1, with captain Harry Kane scoring twice late on to send the Three Lions through.
But England now face arguably their toughest test of the tournament. Mexico have won all four of their World Cup matches so far without conceding a goal and will have the backing of a passionate home crowd in Mexico City.
The match had briefly been surrounded by uncertainty after reports suggested concerns over thunderstorms could force a change to the kick-off time. FIFA has since confirmed the game will go ahead as originally scheduled, although officials continue to monitor the weather.
England also received a hostile welcome upon arriving in Mexico City, with hundreds of supporters gathering outside the team hotel ahead of Sunday's encounter.
The altitude of over 2,200 metres at the Azteca Stadium is expected to be another major challenge, with Tuchel acknowledging that England have had little time to adapt to the conditions.
History is also on the line. England are aiming to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the third consecutive tournament, while Mexico are chasing their first appearance in the last eight since 1986.
The winner will face either Brazil or Norway in the quarter-finals.
