Canada: Eurovision 2027!
Canada joins Eurovision in 2027!
Canada has officially confirmed it will compete in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, becoming the first new country to join the competition since Australia in 2015.
The announcement was made jointly by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Canada's national public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada following the broadcaster's recent admission as a full EBU member.
The 2027 contest will be held in Bulgaria, and Canada will compete in one of the two semi-finals before attempting to qualify for the Grand Final. While Eurovision is traditionally associated with Europe, participation is based on membership of the EBU rather than geography, allowing eligible broadcasters from outside Europe to take part.
Marie-Philippe Bouchard, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, described the announcement as a landmark moment for Canadian music, saying it will give homegrown artists an opportunity to showcase their talent on one of the world's biggest live entertainment stages. The broadcaster has confirmed that details of how Canada's first Eurovision representative will be selected will be revealed later this year.
Canada already has strong Eurovision links. The country's most famous connection came in 1988, when Canadian superstar Céline Dion won the contest representing Switzerland with *Ne partez pas sans moi*. Canadian viewers have also become some of Eurovision's most enthusiastic international fans, regularly featuring among the highest contributors to the "Rest of the World" vote.
The announcement has sparked excitement among Eurovision fans, with speculation already beginning over who could become Canada's inaugural entrant. Names such as Shawn Mendes, Tate McRae, Carly Rae Jepsen and Avril Lavigne have all been mentioned by fans, although no artists have been approached or confirmed.
Canada's debut is expected to bring millions of new viewers to Eurovision and marks another major step in the contest's continuing international expansion.
