BTS Boycott 2027 Grammys

History's most successful K-Pop group BTS will not be submitting their new album ‘ARIRANG’ for consideration for any awards at next year's Grammys, following backlash over the installation of new category ‘Best Asian Pop Music Performance’.

The Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr has insisted the introduction of this category was meant as a way to “celebrate depth and diversity”, but many people online have said this will pigeonhole Asian artists rather than uplift them. 

A statement posted by all 7 BTS members on their respective Instagrams said: “[they] hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.”
