Axel Rudakubana Transferred to Psychiatric Hospital

Southport killer Axel Rudakubana has been moved from HMP Belmarsh to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital after a clinical assessment ruled he cannot be safely managed in a prison environment. 

Rudakubana is currently serving a sentence of at least fifty two years for murdering three young girls at a Taylor Swift themed dance class on 29th July 2024, Alice da Silva Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe, as well as the attempted murder of eight other children and two adults. He was also found guilty of producing the fatal toxin ricin, and possessing an al-Qaida training manuel. 

Lawyer Chris Walker, who represents the families of the girls murdered by Rudakubana, said the families see this move as him: “playing the system”. National chair of the Prison Officers’ Association also claimed that Rudakubana is “not mentally unwell… and nothing more than evil.” 

However, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said: “Highly secure hospitals are not places of freedom. He will remain under constant supervision in a high-security psychiatric unit, and be returned to prison as soon as possible.” Also that Rudakubana's transfer only occurred after “a robust independent clinical assessment.”
