Spotify Will Introduce Labels to Distinguish AI ‘Artists’
Music streaming service Spotify will be adding distinguishing labels to the profiles of AI artists and blocking them from appearing on users algorithm recommendations.
Recently there has been a rise of AI generated singers, some of whom are pulling in large amounts of monthly listeners. In January, a soul singer called Sienna Rose entered Spotify’s viral top 50, but is believed to not be real as she has never played live, never released any music videos, and dropped a significant number of songs suspiciously quickly.
The goal of these new labels is to differentiate fake artists from real ones who might lose out on streams. In a statement, Spotify said: “True artist-fan connection can only be built on a foundation of trust and authenticity. In music, that means listeners need to be able to trust that the artist behind the music is who they say they are.”
