Huge Crowd Gathers For Bonnie Tyler’s Funeral
A large crowd has gathered in Swansea to pay respects to the singer Bonnie Tyler, who died in a Portuguese hospital this year on July 8th “as a result of the illness she was being treated for”.
Born Gaynor Hopkins, Tyler found huge international success in the 1980s with songs such as Holding Out For a Hero and Total Eclipse of The Heart, the latter of which made her the first Welsh person ever to top the US charts.
The funeral service will be held at St Mary’s Church, and afterwards her body will be taken to her hometown of Skewen for a private family service.
The service in St Mary’s will see an emphasis on Tyler’s Welsh roots, with an organist playing renditions of hits by other Welsh singers such as Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones. The exit song will be Mary Hopkin’s Those Were The Days, the song Tyler sang for a local talent show in Skewen when she was a child.
The service will be livestreamed on her website and broadcast onto screens outside for fans to watch too.
