Christian Metal Band Sue Netflix Over KPop Demon Hunters

19 Aug 2026

A Christian metal band called Demon Hunters is suing Netflix in a trademark lawsuit over their movie KPop Demon Hunters.

Demon Hunters have been touring for nearly 30 years, and KPop Demon Hunters is Netflix’s most successful movie of all time, winning Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at last year's Oscars.

The band's company Hyde Lane have registered "Demon Hunter" as a trademark, while Netflix has registered "KPop Demon Hunters" as a trademark.

The band wants Netflix to stop using the KPop Demon Hunters name for recorded music, live shows, merchandise and to award them damages, although the amount has not been specified. They say the similarity in names has caused "almost complete overlap" with their offerings, and that: "The brand that Hyde Lane has carefully built over the course of the past quarter century now faces an existential crisis, thereby necessitating the filing of this action and the granting of the requested relief from this Court."
